POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Mental Health Technician Lead, the Mental Health Technician assists in direct patient care and assists patients with daily living activities.
JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Provides care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and ensures a therapeutic environment.
•Manage and ensure daily schedule for residents is followed as well as adequate supervision for residents is provided.
•Provides direct supervision of patients/residents.
•Prevents and manages crisis situations, including verbal conflict, emotional dysregulation, physical conflict, and other instances as required.
•Role model appropriate behaviors, attitudes, social skills, and self-care.
•Reinforce therapeutic treatment goals through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
•Is trained in SAMA de-escalation skills and able to complete verbal de-escalation and containment as needed to ensure the safety of residents in care.
•Assists patients with activities of daily living; attends to patient behavioral problems and provides assistance in crisis intervention, as needed.
•Works with other members of a multi-disciplinary team in leading milieu activities such as current events groups, community meetings, goal groups, activities of daily living groups, and/or recreational activities, as appropriate to the specified patient population.
•Chart patient observations, following prescribed procedures and standards.
•Participates in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs.
•Maintains age-appropriate rules and enforces the behavioral management system, including proper conduct of residents during therapy groups, recreation, and education.
•Transport patients to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatments as and when appropriate.
•Attends and participates in training, in-service education, and staff meetings.
•Maintains established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
•Observes methods/techniques of clinical staff and participates in the treatment of residents in interactions, limit setting, and implementation of treatment plans.
•Is responsible for co-facilitation and involvement in clinical groups and facilitating non-clinical groups.
•Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
•Assists with medication preparation and management as needed.
•Completes all documentation as required.
•Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
•Adheres to facility policies and procedures.
•Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
•High school diploma or equivalent (required)
•AA/BA/BS Psychology, Education, or related social service field (preferred)
EXPERIENCE:
•One (1) year of experience in the human services field, or at least 2 years of a college education. (preferred)
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
•SAMA or other Nexus Approved non-aggressive behavior intervention certification
•Must obtain current tuberculosis test within the first fourteen (14) days of employment and annually after that.
•Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility, or obtain it within thirty (30) days of hire.
